A LOVE LETTER TO THE END
A documentary film that celebrates Life while taking it's audience on a cinematic journey into personal experiences with Death

Introduction and Visual Approach
A Love Letter To The End takes an inward look into lives of three people and their experience with the dead and dying. Through intimate interviews and simply bearing witness with our cameras, we will explore questions such as: how does one’s relationship with death influence life and how we live it? And, through dying, are we able to relate to each other despite our differences? This film's intention is to ignite conversations about this subject that historically has been considered taboo in western culture.

Treatment
In a world obsessed with productivity, youth, and denial of mortality, death remains the last forbidden conversation. A Love Letter to the End seeks to change that. This film journeys through the quiet, powerful spaces where people have confronted death directly—and chosen to live differently because of it.
The documentary weaves together diverse, human-centered narratives: (the following people are confirmed to participate. We are still developing other participants)
-
James Bane, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and new father, reckons with the trauma of combat, the suicide of his father, and what it means to raise a child after being surrounded by death.
-
Stephanie Santegelo, a NYC-based death doula guides us through the intimate and often invisible world of end-of-life care—bringing presence and dignity to a process our society often hides away. Exploring how her own near death experience shaped her views about transitioning from Life to death
Their stories are punctuated by insights from psychology (Ernest Becker’s Denial of Death), depth psychology (Carl Jung), and philosophy—from Stoicism to existentialism—all converging on the same question:
What if death is not the end of meaning, but the beginning of it?
Visually, the film is poetic and grounded—moments of stillness, silence, and natural imagery contrast with the raw honesty of interviews and lived experience. The tone is reflective, joyful, sometimes painful, but ultimately a hopeful celebration of Life.
A Love Letter to the End does not offer answers—it offers intimacy. With death, with life, and with the possibility that by facing the end, we might love more fully, live more honestly, and connect more deeply.

Adrienne Ironside is a Producer / Director with a lifelong connection to film and television. The daughter of a working actor, she grew up immersed in the world of storytelling and began working on set as a teenager. Her career has taken her through nearly every corner of the industry — from acting and writing to hands-on roles in makeup, wardrobe, production, and the art department. That broad, on-the-ground experience now informs her work as a producer, where she’s known for her collaborative approach, creative insight, and deep respect for the craft.

Sabrina Westmoreland is a writer and visual mixed media artist whose work explores the intersection of material, memory, and meaning. For several years, she focused on found objects as both inspiration and medium — a form of up-cycling that fostered unexpected collaborations between the objects themselves and the audience. This process culminated in a five-minute film, which was featured in MOCA Tucson’s annual festival. Her work has been released in limited pressings, and she has also written, directed, shot, and edited music videos, continuing her interest in storytelling across forms and formats.
